Rounding Chant

We have been using this chant to help us with our rounding skills.

The students have had a lot of fun learning it
and using it to help them round numbers to various place values.

You underline the digit.
Look next door.
If it's 5 or greater,
you're going to add one more.
If it's 4 or less,
you don't mess!

------------------------------------------------------
For example: 45,892
To round this number to the nearest thousands place
you first underline the digit in the thousands place (which I did above),
then you look "next door" to the eight,
since it is greater than 5 you are going to "add one more"
and so the 5 will become a 6
and your final answer will look like this:
46,000

Notice that everything to the right of the digit we were rounding to became zeros and everything to the left of the digit we were rounding to stayed the same.

Have fun practicing rounding!!!!
